Kua Rongo

Kua rongo mai koe i te reo pohiri
E karanga ake nei e
E karanga ake ana i te ao whanui
Piki mai kake mai ra

No wai te reo no wai te mana
E karanga ake nei e
Ko te reo mana nui
ko te mana rongonui
Te kura o Pakuranga e

You have heard the welcome call
Calling to the wide earth
Welcoming
Welcoming
Whose voice, whose integrity is calling forth
It is the voice of great integrity, the renowned voice
Of Pakuranga School

E Minaka Ana

Kia kaha tātou
Ki te (HI!) kōrero Māori!

E minaka ana taku waha
Ki te kai a te rangatira,
Taku reo rangatira
Taku kuru pounamu tuku iho.

Mīharo kē ana
Ki tōna pakari kia ora
Tē memeha, te wairua
ki te kōrero Māori

Kia kaha tātou
Ki te kōrero Māori!

Let us be staunch
in speaking Maori!

I desire that
my talk be like that of a leader,
my noble language
my precious inheritance.

Astound me
with your maturity by
the evanescence, the spirit you show
when speaking Maori.

Let us be staunch
in speaking Maori!

Ka Pioioi

\\

Ka pioioi1 e
Tohu aroha haukāinga

E hoki mai rā
Kia kite atu i tō iwi e.
E rotarota ana
E katakata ana mai rā.

Pūkana whetero mai
I te ihi ā ō mātua.

Kia kite atu ano
I tō ataahua ai kanapa
Pupuhi ai e te hau
Kapohia āku roimata.

Ka pioioi he
tohu aroha haukāinga.
This swaying dance
shows the love of your home-town people.

You've
 come back home,
to see your people.
There is gesturing and
laughing with joy at your return,

Eyes popping and tongues thrusting
from the energy of those performing.

I see again
your beauty gleaming there
caressed by the wind,
and my tears are snatched away.

This fluttering dance
shows your home-town people's love.

Pioioi emulates the flutterering flight of the fantail. This insect-catching bird is small and delicate, yet fearless and sociable.

Ko te aroha anō he wai                       Love is like water
E pupū ake ana                                 continually bubbling up
He awa e māpuna mai ana                  a river that will keep flowing

I roto i te whatū-manawa (x2)             from within the very seat of the emotions.

Ko tona matapuna he hōhonu              From a very deep source
Ā ina ia ka rere anō (x2)                    it will keep on rising

He tai timu                                       an ebb tide
He tai pari                                        an incoming tide
He tai ope                                        a forceful tide
He tai ora                                         a living tide
He tai nui                                         a full tide.
